Online gambling restricted from tomorrow
NEW ZEALAND --It will harder to get gambling licences and easier to lose them, the Department of Internal Affairs said in a statement today.
The Gambling
Act, which was passed last year and comes into effect
tomorrow, does not allow for any more casinos and stops the
six existing ones expanding their operations.

Online gambling site touts Kalan for Idol
TORONTO -- A gambling company in the Caribbean is betting on the popularity of Canadian Idol. BetWWTs.com says 18-year-old Kalan Porter is most likely to win the record deal at 9-to-5 odds.
That means for every $5 gamblers put up for the blond-haired student from Medicine Hat, Alta., they'd win $9.
Wild card winner Elena Juatco, a 19-year-old from Vancouver, is considered second most likely to win at 7-to-2 odds. She's followed by 23-year-old Theresa Sokyrka, of Saskatoon, at 4-to-1 odds.
Last night
marked the beginning of the next round of competition on the
show. That's when the Top 10, whittled down from 9,000 who
auditioned, began to be eliminated.

Federal law enforcement officials routinely seize money they suspect is connected to activities like money laundering, terrorism or drug smuggling. But in early April, United States marshals seized $3.2 million from Discovery Communications, the television and media company, in an aggressive effort to crack down on a new target, Internet gambling.
